First Physical Class - Ninth Class

How did the class go? Today was my first physical class of  Logic. I was bedridden due to Jaundice and have missed the previous two physical classes. My friends told me those two classes were fun because the lectures were short and Eak sir had some interesting games to engage the class throughout. This made me raise my expectations about the class I was about to attend.  The class started with a few failed attempts to get the projector working. Eak sir inquired on whose turn it was to present on which he was responded with the argument going on in our previous online classes as well; Eak sir should teach the topic first before students were asked to present.  Since no one had prepared the presentation, the teacher divided us into group of 2 and asked us to brainstorm on the question 'Is it necessary for an Individual to get formal knowledge about Logic to become good Logician?'  Me and my partner Darpan decided that it is not necessary for an individual to get formal knowledge

Languages and their function - Eight Class

How did the class go? Today, there was a bit of confusion in the class about who was to present. Some students were asking the teacher to give a lecture on the topic first before asking for anyone to present. Since no one was ready with their presentation, Eak sir decided to start a new topic ‘The Uses of Language’. As usual, the teacher asked us our understanding of the topic of Language. He askes us what language is and how languages are different. After gathering general ideas such as language is a means to communicate, Eak sir then started the discussion on the types of words and types of sentences.  He also shared his way of understanding the types of words which I was not able to grasp due to a poor internet connection. My Reflection I was disinterested by the argument of my classmates on whether the teacher should teach the topic first before asking any students to present. For me, student presentation on any topic and teacher's feedback to add any missing points was a we

The one after Dashain - Seventh Class

How did the class go? It was the first logic class after Dashain Festival. Due to the festival, I was not in any mood to take the class today. However, I did join the class to my friends presenting on the topic of fallacies. This reminded me that we were discussing fallacies just before the vacation.  I was feeling lazy and was not actively listening to my friends, rather was letting the presentation play in the background; perks of an online class.  After their presentation ended, Eak sir asked us about the reflection on the presentation by our classmates. He then wrapped up the class early which was exactly what I was hoping for because I was in no mood to attend a full 2 hours lecture.  My Reflection Since it was the first class after vacation, I was feeling lazy to participate actively. I did chime in my opinions when sir had asked for reflection but was not an honest one.

Fallacy and Approaching Dashain - Sixth Class

How did the class go? The class was very interesting today. Eak sir showed us the video about fallacies in logic. Since the video was well arranged with relevant examples, it was easy to understand.  Later he asked about our understanding of the fallacies. Recalling to the very first lecture when he said "Students who do not turn on their video in the class are bad', the teacher asked us to explain the fallacy in the argument. I pointed out it was a Hasty Generalization because he was rushing to conclusions based on incomplete information.  He also asked us which fallacy we found interesting. For me it was, Slippery slope,  which implies that the end result of today's actions could be something terrible. For Example "If I give you a raise, then I have to give everyone a raise, and then the company will go bankrupt.” The teacher was satisfied with my answer.  After one hour, he wrapped up the class and we exchanged wishes for upcoming dashain.  My Reflection Since th

Riddles, Science and Experience - Fifth Class

How did the class go? Due to the internet issues, I was a little late to join the class. As I joined, I found out Eak sir had presented some riddles and my classmates were providing answers as well as the logic via which they reach the conclusion. It must have been a fun session but I had missed the major portion of it.  Then began the presentation by classmates in which they covered the topic about value of science, scientific and unscientific explanations along with their differences, scientific inquiry, experiments ad hoc hypothesis and such. I had not slept well that day so I dozed off while the presentation was going on. (Both pro and cons of the online class) When I woke up startled, Eak sir then handed over the screen to all of us and asked us to speak about any notable point in the presentation or ask questions. In desperate hope of saving myself from embarrassment, I quickly went through the topic that had been presented and came up with a good enough question.  Eak sir then

Science vs Pseudoscience and the Hypothesis - Fourth Class

How did the class go? The class began with a student debate on Science and Pseudoscience. When Eak Sir asked the class for volunteers I was eager to take part, but I was not in a favorable situation to turn on my mic. So I had to let go of the opportunity.  Prateek (who was in favor of Pseudoscience) explained how science was based on pseudoscience which aligned with my studies and interpretations of myths and holy books. Sampanna presented the ways in which we make rational decisions based on science. His answer supported his argument for the second question the teacher had asked, "Can anyone be a scientist?". Sampanna said how individuals without the knowledge of science can be using intricate ways of doing things that are based on pure science. With the conclusion of this student engagement portion, we moved on to the topic of Science and Hypothesis. Eak sir had brought a presentation on a boy trying to find out if the size of the loaf of bread would increase if the amoun

First Presentation of the Semester - Third Class

How did the class go? Today, there were 3 presentations scheduled for the class. Eak sir started the class by explaining the fundamentals of Logic, the propositions, the premises, and arguments. He asked us to write two reasons why we were a good student. He then asked us to present our premises in the class itself. This took more than the first 30 minutes of the class.  Then, my classmate, Bhumika was asked to present on the pre-designated topic. She had a beautifully prepared presentation. After her presentation, Eak sir started explaining more on the topic and asked feedback and questions from the students as well. I was given a chance to ask questions to the presenter, but as I was waiting for the turn of my own presentation, I backed out. Eak sir went on talking more on the topic and almost lost track of time. As an anxious presenter, I was desperately waiting for my turn.  Finally, It was my turn to present. I was halfway through the presentation when there was an electricity c
